Negative Propaganda
Racist PropagandaBy dehumanizing the Japanese and instilling fear in the minds of Americans, WWII propaganda posters promoted cultural and racial hatred that let to massive historical consequences for the Japanese. The racial stereotyping put forth many variations of a demonizing theme. In some forms of propaganda, the slanted eyes illustrated an Asian stereotype. Also, the monkey-like faces portrayed the Japanese as animalistic monsters. The majority of the posters displayed caricatures with racial characteristics exaggerated to the point of fantasy and absurdity. Historian, Arthur Marder stated, "because of their eye slits...the Japanese fighter pilots could not shoot straight, and Japanese naval officers could not see in the dark." Nazi propagandists portrayed Jews as the "alien race" that fed off the host nation, poisoned its culture, seized its economy, and enslaved its workers and farmers. Joseph Goebbel's mission was to censor all opposition to Hitler and present the chancellor and the Nazi Party in the most positive light while stirring up hatred for Jewish people. Children were taught in schools bad/racist propaganda tactics (not just in Germany) because they thought children were easy to manipulate.
