The main countries that made up the allied powers were the United States, Great Britain, Soviet
Union, and France. In World War II both the Axis and Allied powers used propaganda to increase support for their side of the war. Motivational tools allies used were pride, fear, patriotism, and a sense of duty. A wide range of themes were addressed, fostering hostility to the enemy, support for allies, and specific pro war projects such as conserving metal and growing vegetables.
U.S.
Propaganda influenced America to join the war to make the world safe for democracy. In the United States characters like Uncle Sam or Rosie the Riveter were put on posters nationwide. Uncle Sam "Wants you" to join the U.S. Army, while Rosie the Riveter encouraged women that "We can do it!" while our men were away fighting in the war. 90 percent of American families owned a radio, and it was a part of daily life. So it was an obvious means of spreading war propaganda.
Great Britain and France
Majority of British propaganda was based on national honor. The British opposed German propaganda by using radio broadcasts of their own. French propaganda was very diverse during World War II.
FFL (Free French Forces) created a number of posters which were put up in all allied fields to raise the morale of the French soldiers who fled the war, now fighting from allied soil.
Soviet Union
Soviet Union propaganda was based on the Communists point of view of the Soviet Union. Soviet Union used speeches, posters and newspapers. Most of Soviet Union's propaganda was toward Germany. Joseph Stalin played a big role in the Soviet Union's propaganda.
